Thank you since many of us have some newer scanners and some old relics.

what kind do you own? I am thinking about buying the new bearcat police scanner, new to police scanners...but from what I hear the bearcat police scanner will actually notify you if a cop is using his radio within so many miles of you? That would be neat since if he was using instant on radar and you were out in the middle of nowhere might have a little bit more notice that he is there if you get lucky

You must be talking about the Uniden 996T scanner. The feature you are talking about is called Close Call and even has a bar graph to show you the distance from the source. Nice digital scanner, but will need to shop around to get a good price.

The bct-8 claims to have this feature too. Although the problem with that theory is, it has to be their old 800mhz bandwidth analog rigs. Very few places that even use analog use 800mhz. Most use VHF bandwidth, around 155mhz roughly. They don't use 800mhz, i've only seen a few that do. In conclusion then what is the point in the beartracker feature on the bct-8? Now the 996t will warn you of these things. So will the 396t, also the bct-15 nice analog .
